Subsidy and money

01How much subsidy do I actually get?

Two subsidies stack in Uttar Pradesh — the central PM Surya Ghar amount, plus a UPNEDA state top-up of ₹15,000 per kW capped at ₹30,000.

SystemCentralUP stateTotal
1 kW₹30,000₹15,000₹45,000
2 kW₹60,000₹30,000₹90,000
3 kW₹78,000₹30,000₹1,08,000
4 kW₹78,000₹30,000₹1,08,000
5 kW and above₹78,000₹30,000₹1,08,000

Both are capped, so a 10 kW system still receives ₹1,08,000 — not ten times the 1 kW amount. In Delhi and most other states there is no capital top-up, so only the central portion applies.

02Who is eligible?
You need a residential electricity connection in your own name, or written permission from whoever holds it, and rights over the roof. The subsidy is once per connection. Commercial and industrial connections are not eligible for PM Surya Ghar — that scheme is residential only, including housing-society common-area connections in most cases. We check your eligibility during the free survey before anything is promised.
03When does the money actually reach me?
After commissioning and DISCOM inspection, not before. You pay the full system cost, then the subsidy is credited directly to your bank account — typically 30 to 45 days after the inspection clears. It does not come off the invoice upfront, and any vendor telling you otherwise is describing something else. We file the claim; the transfer is government-to-you.
04Do I have to pay it all at once?
No. Rooftop solar up to 10 kW qualifies as priority-sector lending, so partner banks finance it collateral-free at rates below a personal loan. On a typical 3 kW system in UP the EMI lands close to what you were already paying the electricity board — so your monthly outflow barely moves, and once the loan closes the saving is entirely yours. We also stage our own payments: on material delivery, on installation, and on commissioning.
05What does it actually cost?
A residential system runs roughly ₹55,000 to ₹70,000 per kW installed, depending on size, module choice and how difficult your roof is. That is all-in — panels, inverter, mounting structure, cabling, earthing, net-meter liaison and installation. Smaller systems cost more per kW because the fixed costs spread over less capacity. You get a fixed written price after the survey, not a range.
06Is GST included in the price?
Yes — the price we quote after the survey is the final, all-inclusive number. GST on the solar system is already built in, along with structure, cabling, net-meter liaison and installation. Nothing is added later.

The system itself

07On-grid, off-grid or hybrid — which one do I need?

On-grid is what most homes should install. No batteries, connected to the grid, surplus exported through a net meter. It is the cheapest per unit and the only type eligible for subsidy.

Off-grid uses batteries and no grid connection. Right for farms and locations where supply is absent or unusable, wrong for a city home — batteries add heavy cost and need replacing.

Hybrid does both: grid-connected with battery backup for outages. Costs more, and worth it if your area has long cuts and you need the load running through them.

08Will it work during a power cut?
An on-grid system shuts down in a power cut. That surprises people, so it is worth stating plainly: it is a mandatory safety feature called anti-islanding, which stops your panels back-feeding a dead line while a lineman is working on it. Every compliant on-grid system in India behaves this way. If you need power through outages, you need a hybrid system with battery backup, and we will tell you that during the survey rather than after.
09What happens at night and during monsoon?
You draw from the grid exactly as you did before. On sunny days your surplus is exported and the meter runs backwards; your bill is settled on net units at the end of the cycle. This is why a grid-connected system does not need batteries — the grid is the battery. Generation drops in heavy monsoon weeks and more than makes up for it March through June.
10How much roof do I need?
Roughly 90 to 100 sq ft of shadow-free roof per kW. A 3 kW system needs about 300 sq ft. What matters more than total area is shadow — water tanks, parapet walls, a neighbour's tower, a tree that will be taller in five years. That is the main thing the survey measures.
11What maintenance does it need?
Wash the panels with plain water every two to three weeks in dusty months. Dust alone can cost 10 to 15% of your generation, and in this region that is the single biggest avoidable loss. There are no moving parts otherwise. Modules carry a 25-year performance warranty and inverters typically 5 to 10 years, direct from the manufacturer. We offer AMC cover for scheduled cleaning, servicing and fault attendance if you would rather not handle it.
12Can I add more panels later?
Yes, if the inverter was sized with headroom and your sanctioned load allows it — which is why we ask about future plans during the survey. Expanding later also means a fresh DISCOM approval and possibly a load enhancement. Adding capacity to an existing system will not attract a second subsidy; that is once per connection.
13Which brand of panels and inverter do you install?
We install DCR-listed panels and inverters from manufacturers approved under the PM Surya Ghar / MNRE empanelment list, since that's a requirement for the subsidy to be sanctioned at all. We'll tell you the exact brand and model for your system in the written proposal, before you pay anything, and it stays fixed — we don't swap components after the deal is signed.

Process and paperwork

14How long does the whole thing take?
About 21 days from survey to commissioning in a normal case. Days 1–10 are registration and DISCOM feasibility approval, days 11–14 are the physical installation, and days 15–21 are inspection, net-meter fitting and the subsidy claim. The variable is the DISCOM, not us — approvals occasionally take longer, and we will tell you where your file is rather than making you chase it.
15What is net metering, in plain terms?
A bidirectional meter that counts electricity going out as well as coming in. Your bill is calculated on the net — units consumed minus units exported. Without it, everything you generate and do not use instantly is simply given away. Getting it sanctioned is part of what we handle.
16What documents do I need?
Aadhaar, a recent electricity bill, proof of roof ownership or an owner's NOC, and a cancelled cheque or bank details for the subsidy credit. That is genuinely it from your side. National portal registration, the UPNEDA and DISCOM applications, the inspection and the subsidy claim are all filed by our team.
17What if the subsidy does not come through?
If your system is sanctioned and commissioned and the subsidy has not landed within 90 days, we waive our installation fee. What we cannot promise is eligibility we do not control — if the connection or the roof rights do not qualify, we will tell you at the survey stage, before you have spent anything.
18What if I want to cancel my order after paying the advance?
Tell us before installation begins and we refund the advance minus any cost already incurred — for material already ordered specifically for your system, for instance. If you cancel before we have ordered anything, you get the full amount back. We would rather lose an order than an argument.
19Is the system insured?
The equipment carries manufacturer warranty — typically 25 years on panels and 5 to 10 years on the inverter — which covers manufacturing defects, not external damage. For damage from fire, storm or theft, you can add the system to your home insurance policy as a rider; most general insurers in India now offer this, and we will give you the documentation (invoice, capacity, make) you need to get it added.

Societies, tenants and business

20I live in an apartment. Can I still do this?
Not on your own flat — you need rights over roof area. What works instead is a society installation on the common terrace, billed to the society meter and serving the common load: submersible pump, lifts, corridor and stair lighting, CCTV. The benefit reaches every flat through a lower maintenance bill. Speak to your RWA; we handle the resolution paperwork and the DISCOM application together.
21How does a society system get paid for and shared?
The society funds it from corpus or a one-time per-flat contribution, and the saving shows up as a permanently lower common-area bill — usually 70 to 100% lower depending on how the system is sized against the load. Because it is a single shared asset on shared property, there is no metering dispute between flats. We size it against the actual common-area consumption, not the total of everyone's individual bills.
22I am a tenant. Is it worth it?
Only with a long remaining lease and the owner's written consent, since the system stays with the building. A better conversation is often with the owner directly — solar raises the property's value and its rental appeal, and we are happy to explain that to them.
23Do you do commercial, industrial or agricultural systems?
Yes — and they are sized differently. A business system starts with an energy audit of your actual load profile across the day, not with your bill amount, because a factory that draws heavily at 3pm and a cold store that draws all night need very different designs. Commercial connections do not receive the PM Surya Ghar subsidy, so the economics rest on tariff savings and depreciation instead. The audit is free.

Why Ssarth GreenTech

24Why choose Ssarth GreenTech over other installers?
Three things, plainly: we quote a fixed price after an actual site survey, not an estimate over the phone; we file every government form ourselves so you are not the one following up with DISCOM or UPNEDA; and if the subsidy does not land within 90 days of commissioning, we waive our installation fee — that is in writing, not a sales line.
25What happens if something goes wrong after installation?
Call or WhatsApp the same number you used to book the survey — you do not get routed to a call centre. For a warranty issue, we coordinate with the manufacturer directly. For anything else, we send someone out; most faults are diagnosed and fixed within a few days. If you have taken an AMC, scheduled visits and priority fault response are already built in.
26Can I speak to previous customers?
Yes — ask during the survey and we will share contacts for a couple of recent installations near you, on-grid and society systems both. Seeing a working roof beats reading about one.
